Does your hair need some moisture? This Banana Avocado Hair Mask is for you! With added honey and lemon juice, your locks will be shiny, smooth and strong.

Confession: it’s been my goal for the last year to grow my hair out, mermaid style.

While short hair is certainly beautiful, and I know several people who can rock short cuts, I’ve always been attached to my long hair. There have been a few times in my life where I’ve gone short – once for Locks of Love, once because I had crazy dead ends, and once for a change after I broke up with my ex (so cliché). Each time I’ve been desperate to grow it back.

When I look back at pictures from my junior year of high school, I find myself feeling envious… of myself. My hair was looooong, and my mission is to get it that long again, except healthier and stronger than it was all those years ago.

Back in the day, I used to use hot oil hair treatments all.the.time. Honestly, I don’t even think they did anything. They’re probably not even made from real oil. Recently, I’ve been very into hair masks, both store-bought and homemade. I’m going to post about the store bought hair mask I’m loving sometime soon, but today it’s all about DIY.

DIY Banana Avocado Hair Mask

Did you know that you can make an awesome hair mask right from the ingredients in your own pantry and refrigerator? So even on the fly you can have a spa experience AND make your hair stronger and healthier (and in my case, hopefully grow it long and strong!).

This hair mask is composed of four simple ingredients: banana, avocado, raw honey & lemon juice. Here are the benefits of each of the components:

  • Banana: rich in vitamins A, C & E and potassium to strengthen and add shine
  • Avocado: high in vitamins B & E, which potentially strengthen and revitalize hair
  • Honey: locks in moisture and softens
  • Lemon juice: adds shine and potentially lightens hair

Long story short, this mask packs a huge punch for hair nutrition. Yes, I just said hair nutrition. Your hair can be healthy or unhealthy, too! I believe that what you put into your body starts a good, healthy foundation, but using hair masks and treatments can enhance your hair’s health.

Some tips for using the mask: when you’re putting the mixture on, some of it might fall off if it’s not mashed to a completely smooth point. That’s okay. But sorry for the little bit of a mess. When you’re washing it out, I recommend jumping in the shower instead of flipping your head over the tub. After you shampoo and condition as you normally would (after rinsing the mask out), use a comb to help brush out any banana that sticks. I found that it took a bit of work, but the mask did wash out all the way with patience!
